Welcome to Off Duty Coffee Roastery's News Board! This will be where we announce our new coffee offerings, tips on perfecting your brew, coffee recipes and more. But first a little about us.

My background: I (Steve) became a volunteer firefighter in the early 2000s, after my first "campaign" wildfire, I was hooked. I enjoyed being outdoors and the camaraderie working with fellow firefighters. Sometimes, while on a 24hr shift, after our tasks were completed and there was time for a break, we would bring out the coffee pot in the early hours of the morning and make a pot of brew over a burning stump. We would swap stories with other firefighters from other crews and sometimes, even our bosses would swing by while they were patrolling the fire-line. From experiences like this and many others, and idea was formed that eventually became Off Duty Coffee Roastery.
Since the early days of making coffee on the fire-line, coffee brewing techniques have evolved into much more compact devices and different methods. Today, coffee on the fire-line is still considered a special treat by many and still brings people together. I started roasting coffee while "off duty" and providing it to those who were "on duty."
I began roasting my own coffee in 2015 with a popcorn popper. As my confidence grew, I began to roast a little for family members and close friends. Eventually the small popcorn popper was upgraded to a Gene' Café roaster. It wasn't long and people from my workplace became interested in my coffee as the smell of my brew wafted down the hallways at work. Soon my days off work were full of roasting coffee and not much time for anything else. By 2020, we began to look into coffee roasting as a potential business. A temporary label was used while our logo was being developed by one of my brothers who lives in Arizona. In January of 2022, we acquired a 3kg roaster. We had to modify it to run off propane and after began learning how to roast on a much larger scale. By February 2023 our newly designed bags with our new logo were printed and ready for distribution!
Looking forward, we are considering purchasing a mobile kitchen trailer in which to move our roaster and packaging equipment into. This would also allow us to attend events, serve coffee beverages and promote our business. We look forward to bringing you along with us on our journey.
